The yard in Heusden: where every Bekkers yacht is built, Bekkers Yachts

Every Bekkers yacht is built at one yard: Industrieweg 12B in Heusden, part of the municipality of Heusden in the south of the Netherlands, on the river Maas. The yard works on three yachts side by side and builds no more than four yachts a year. Its 70 ft hall is ready for larger yachts in the future.

One yard, one standard

Bekkers Yachts does not spread its work across subcontracted sites. Design decisions, metalwork, stainless finishing, fit-out and handover all come together in one place. From workshops to storage to office space, the yard is fully equipped to take a yacht from aluminium plate to finished weekender.

That matters for owners. When the people who weld the hull, polish the stainless and fit the interior work in the same building, questions are answered at the workbench rather than by email. It also means you can see your yacht at every stage, because everything happens here.

Three yachts side by side, four a year at most

The yard is laid out to build three yachts side by side. Output is capped at a maximum of four yachts per year. This is a deliberate choice, not a constraint. It keeps the team focused on each build and protects the exclusivity of every yacht that leaves the hall.

Because Bekkers builds in aluminium without moulds, each yacht can follow its owner's wishes on layout, colour and detail. The limited number of builds a year gives the team the time to do that properly. Read how a build unfolds in How a custom yacht is built and How long does it take to build a custom yacht?.

Built for what comes next

The hall is 70 ft long. That is more than the AZUR 45HT at 13.5 m (44.29 ft) and the Carib 64HT at 18.7 m (61.35 ft) need. The extra length is intentional: the yard is ready for the day Bekkers Yachts adds larger yachts to the portfolio. Leon Bekkers has said the same philosophy applies to the 50 to 70 ft segment.

Visiting the yard

The best way to understand a Bekkers yacht is to see one being built. Visits are best arranged in advance, so the team can make time for you and show you the work in progress, the stainless detailing and the materials you can choose from.

What a visit typically includes

  • A walk through the hall and workshops, with yachts at different stages of build.
  • A close look at the high-polished stainless components and the paint to sample finish.
  • Time with the team to talk about layout, engines and options.
  • Where possible, a sea trial on the Maas. See Request a sea trial or yard visit.

Getting here

The yard sits in Heusden, a short drive from the historic town of Heusden and from 's-Hertogenbosch in the province of North Brabant. Ask the yard for directions and advice on arriving by car or by water when you book your visit.

Heusden: a fortified city on the Maas

The yard's surroundings are part of the experience. Heusden is a fortified city on the Maas, surrounded by water. Walking through its restored streets feels like stepping back into the seventeenth century, with windmills, workshops, galleries, shops, museums and restaurants within the old walls.

For water lovers and anyone interested in Dutch history, it is an easy place to spend a day before or after a visit to the yard. The ramparts and the harbour are within easy reach of the yard.

The marina and the Maas as starting point

Heusden has its own marina, where boats can moor. From there you can explore the city itself and the surrounding area, or use the marina as the starting point for a trip on the water.

Thanks to its location on the banks of the Maas, you can set off in any direction. The river takes you past some of the finest scenery the Netherlands has to offer, and connects to the wider Dutch waterway network. For a new owner, that means the first miles on your yacht can start right where it was built.

For owners abroad, the yard can advise on getting the yacht to its home waters. Read more in Shipping a yacht from Holland to Florida or the Mediterranean and Buying a Dutch-built yacht from the US or UK.

After handover

The relationship does not end when the yacht leaves the hall. Through Bekkers Yachts Service and its international connections, the yard thinks along on maintenance, servicing, winter storage, charter and resale. Details for your situation are discussed personally. See Owning a Bekkers: service, warranty and aftersales.
