How a custom aluminium yacht is built
By Leon Bekkers, founder·5 min read1. The brief
The builder learns how you will use the yacht: cruising area, guests, nights on board, helming style.
2. Design
The designer and naval architect turn the brief into general arrangement drawings, renderings and a weight and performance calculation.
3. Specification and contract
Every material, system and option is written down, with a fixed price and delivery date.
4. Hull and superstructure
Aluminium plates are cut, formed and welded into the hull and superstructure. Then the surfaces are faired by hand and painted.
5. Outfitting
Engines, electrics, plumbing, interior joinery, upholstery and stainless steel are fitted. At Bekkers, stainless steel is made in our own workshop.
6. Sea trial and delivery
Every system is tested at sea with the owner. After handover, the builder supports the yacht with service and warranty.
